About Me

Dr Junying Jeanie Kirk has worked professionally as an interpreter and translator since 2002, although she has had many more years of interpreting experiences prior to becoming a fully-fledged free-lance specialist between Mandarin Chinese and English and vice versa. She has worked extensively for public and private clients, mainly in the field of legal proceedings and also in business. Her current client base includes:

 

  • Police Forces: from South Yorks to South Wales, West Midlands & West Mercia, Staffordshire and other forces
  • Courts: Crown Courts, Magistrates Courts, County Counts, Youth and Family Courts

Junying has excellent qualifications in interpreting and translation among which:

  • A BA in English Language &Literature from Chongqing University,China in 1982
  • An MA in Linguistics from Warwick University in 1988
  • An MLitt in Education from Glasgow University in 1993
  • A PhD in Cultural Studies & Education from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1997
  • An MBA from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1999
  • The Metropolitan Police Test for Interpreters in 2007

Junying is a full member of the Institute of Translators and Interpreters (MITI, visit www.iti.org.uk), and is on the National Register for Public Service Interpreters (www.nrpsi.co.uk) from 2004, NRPSI number: 12369, as well as on the panel of Home Office interpreters. Junying also has many years of teaching experience, teaching English as a foreign language as well as teaching Chinese at different levels, in both China and in the UK.

Junying set up Dr Zen’s Mandarin Services in 2002, to devote her energy to providing high-quality, comprehensive interpreting and translation services. She is hard working, diligent, reliable and on time. Her command of both English and Chinese are first-class. She strives for professionalism at all times and is well respected among her colleagues and clients alike.
